Meet the people behind the scenes

Today Margrét is the heart of tourism in Mjóifjörður. She’s been part of life here since she was a teenager, helping out from the age of 14, and the place is very much in her bones. The business was founded by her mother, Jóhanna, back in 1985, and in 2020 Margrét proudly took over to carry the story forward.

By training, Margrét is both a teacher and a tourism professional, but more than anything, she’s a local who truly loves where she lives. There’s nowhere she’d rather be than in Mjóifjörður with her family, her dog Tobbi, and her cat Grettir, surrounded by steep mountains, fresh air, and nature that never stops impressing.

For Margrét, hosting is personal. She puts genuine care into making sure every guest feels welcome and at ease. If visitors leave feeling calm, rested, and a little more connected to nature, and to themselves, then she considers her job well done.
